Obit of note: Bigfoot scholar dies

Sunday, July 1st, 2007

I like the tack Peter Fimrite of the San Francisco Chronicle takes in today’s obituary of Thomas Arthur Buckley, who died at age 89. What could have been folksy and superficial comes off as respectful and revealing, as the writer balances the professional life and personal obsession of a man who toted Ansel Adams’ cameras through Yosemite in the 1930s, had a bit role in Robin Hood with Errol Flynn and led his field in physical therapy during and after World War II. Oh, and: “He would hang salmon and shad 10 feet high in the trees and make ‘oook, oook’ sounds in the night, trying to attract the creature.” Buckley apparently died 37 years to the day after coming face-to-face with a Sasquatch.
